Do I need insurance to sell goods door to door?

I have been offered a part time job selling cosmetics from door to door. I have been advised that I may need Public Liability insurance for this as I will be carry a small amount of goods with me which will be paid for at the time, or taking an order and delivering the goods at a later date. Also I was told that I would need business insurance for my car as I will be carrying the goods with me to each place and then home again, although I will not be selling from the car. Is this true? I will be self employed so I would have to consider the extra costs involved before agreeing to take on this job.
